We are super excited to announce that the next ‘Last Thursday Tasting’ will be hosted by Toby Wolfe, representing one family-run business in the BottleShop, in order to welcome another, the Bear Republic Brewing Co! These guys know how to make a quality beer and have been doing so for 23 years. Unusually, they are situated bang in the middle of the wine country of Sonoma County, California and take inspiration from the exacting quality and of wine making there.
All Bear Republic beer is unfiltered and hand crafted and their methods have taken them years to perfect. It’s time we did them justice in the UK. On Thursday 29th, I will be sharing six of their beers with you, with one yet to be revealed for my grand finale! For a flavour of what's to be expected at this month's tasting please see below.
Racer 5 IPA - is one of those cult beers, and one of those ‘lightbulb moment’ beers for many people too. There’s been a fair amount of it in the UK over the years, but never tasting as good as it does now as we’re welcoming it over in our #ColdChain program. To learn more about why #ColdChain matters, see Charlotte’s recent blog here This was the first beer I had from Bear Republic and it caught me by surprise, a wonderful haze and a creamy white head, I hadn't had a beer like this before it really changed things for me, malty but yet floral and at 7.5% ABV it's a sneaky one!
Cafe Racer - A revving Double IPA which features aromas of bright citrus and pine from use of Citra, Amarillo, Cascade and Chinook which are complimented by a dry malt finish. 9.75% ABV
Big Bear - A big, black, stout you can really sink your teeth into! The bold, roasty, caramel malt flavour is balanced by Centennial and Cascade hops. 8.1% ABV
Hop Shovel - Is a wheat and Rye focused IPA with a soft rounded mouth feel and an abundance of flavour and aroma from Mosaic, Meridian and Denali Hops. 7.5% ABV
Double Aught - A Pilsner inspired by perfectly balanced, crisp lagers of Central Europe. They use Imported Hallertau hops to produce a crisp refreshing beaut. 5% ABV
I look forward to sharing these with you!
