“t Verzet” translates into English as “The Resistance”, and this is a brewery who will not be confined to producing traditional Belgian beers. Founded by university friends Alex Lippens, Koen Van Lancker and Joran Van Ginderachter, Verzet began as a gypsy brewery and partly funded their commercial brewery off the sales of Rebel Local, an English style IPA. It is rare to find a brewery in Belgium which produces as varied a line-up of beers as Verzet, not to mention one which looks to other countries for inspiration as much as it does to their Belgian heritage. They now produce a range of styles including the much-acclaimed Old Bruin which is a more sour interpretation, drawing on the red-brown sub-variant from South West Flanders made famous by Rodenbach.
